Minimal Skincare Routine: From 10 Steps to One Bottle

Minimal Skincare Routine: From 10 Steps to One Bottle

I was born in a small hidden town in the Siberian Taiga. From a young age, I felt connected to nature. I spent hours in the forest by our home, collecting pine cones and enjoying the cedar trees. My family was deeply nature-oriented. My dad seemed to know everything about the forest's healing powers.

This was the 90s, and Russia was in a crazy deficit. We had stores and shops, but they looked nothing like the shopping malls of today. There were a few Soviet creams on the shelves, but nowhere near the variety we have now. And that is what everyone used. Nobody around me was putting forest oils on their face. City people, even in Siberia, had long forgotten the old nature recipes and drifted away from them.

When I moved to Moscow, to the big city, I was excited to try new beauty products. I bought the shelf: cleanser, toner, vitamin C, retinol, three different serums, an eye cream, a night cream, a sleeping mask. I tried everything and started going to cosmetologists. My bathroom looked like a lab. My skin looked like a battlefield. Every time I stopped using another expensive cream, my skin seemed to go through withdrawal.

As a music artist, I needed great skin, but it was only getting worse. During a trip home, I shared my frustration with my dad. He laughed and said, "What else did you expect from all those chemicals?" That phrase stuck with me.

I went back to my roots, to the knowledge passed down in my family. I didn't need to search for a formula. It was already there. And it took me years to fully hear what my father had been telling me all along: my skin was not asking for more. It was asking for less.

Why your skin might be begging you to stop

Here is something the beauty industry will never put on a billboard: every product you add is another chance for your skin to say no. Fragrance, preservatives, active ingredients stacked on top of each other, each one perfectly fine alone and exhausting together.

Sensitive skin is not broken skin. It is skin that is tired of being negotiated with. When I simplified my routine, the redness I had been fighting for years quieted down. Not because I found a miracle ingredient. Because I finally stopped overwhelming my face.

I am not a dermatologist, and I will not promise you results I cannot guarantee. But I can tell you what hundreds of our customers tell us in reviews: when they stopped the 10-step routine and switched to one honest product, their skin finally calmed down. "6-step routine to just Zhiiva," one woman wrote. That sentence lives in my head.

The Siberian way: one product is enough.

Here is the honest part of the story. The resin of the Siberian cedar pine has records of use going back to 1638. But by the time I was growing up, that tradition had almost disappeared. Nobody put it on their face. I learned about this use from my father many years later.

My father knows the healing plants of the Taiga deeply. It is a lifelong passion of his, and some of what he knows came to me, and then to Zhiiva. Part of my mission now is to remind people, even back home in Siberia, of what the forest always knew. Our formula is only two ingredients: Siberian cedar oil and cedar resin. That is it. No synthetic chemicals, no added vitamins, no fragrance. The vitamins A, D and E are already in the resin, the way nature made them.

When I moved to California, I could not bring Siberia with me. So I bottled it. That is the whole philosophy: one product, from one forest, for everything your face needs.

If you want to know exactly what is inside and why, I wrote it all down on our ingredients page: https://zhiiva.com/pages/ingredients

What a minimal skincare routine actually looks like

Forget the 10 steps. Here is the whole thing.

Morning:

Rinse your face with water (or use a gentle cleanser if you prefer). While your skin is still slightly damp, warm 3 to 4 drops of serum between your palms and press it into your face. That is your moisturizer, your serum, and your glow, in one move. If you spend the day in the sun, add sunscreen on top or, better yet, cover your face.

Evening:

Wash the day off your face. Press the same serum in. Go to sleep. There is no second product hiding behind this one.

Give it time, but don't be surprised by fast results.

Some people see it right away: the skin glows and feels good from the very first uses. For others it takes longer. Every skin is different and carries its own history with a full shelf of products. Consistency beats novelty, every single time.

Who a minimal routine helps most.

It is not for everyone, and I will not pretend it is. But if any of this sounds familiar, less might be your answer:

  • Your skin reacts to everything, and you have a graveyard of half-used bottles under the sink.
  • You have tried expensive products that promised the world and delivered irritation.
  • You are a mom buying skincare for a teenager, and you want something simple and honest, not a chemistry set.
  • You are simply tired of the beauty rat race and want your evenings back.

A minimal routine is not about doing nothing. It is about choosing one thing you trust and letting your skin remember how to be skin.

If you have questions about how the serum behaves on different skin types, our FAQ answers the ones we hear most: https://zhiiva.com/a/faq

One product will not fix your sleep, your stress, or what you eat. I will never tell you otherwise. Skincare is one piece of a bigger picture, and anyone who tells you a bottle can replace the rest is selling you something.

What I can tell you is this: I have been using this exact serum for years. It is the only thing on my bathroom shelf. And I have never felt better about my skin, or more like myself.

If you are curious, start with less. One bottle, one ritual, morning and night. We plant a tree for every bottle (here is how: https://zhiiva.com/pages/plant-a-tree-with-zhiiva), and we back it with a 30-day guarantee: if Zhiiva does not work for your skin, we have not earned your trust or your money.

With love from California,
Polyna
